The next morning, we decided to take advantage of modern technology and
climb up the mountain the easy way. There is a cable car (supposedly the
highest in the world) that takes you up to the 3842m (12,600 ft) pinnacle
of the Aiguille du Midi. From there, you can see stunning views of Mont
Blanc, and many people use it as a base to climb the peak. There is also
a long cable car that goes across a large snowfield (to the right of this
image) which is on the Italian border. From there, it is possible to decend
by cable car to the Italian ski resort town of Courmayeur.
