Found it!!! We finally made it to the ridge with great views over the
glacier. From this point, there is a cute train that you can take back
down to Chamonix (from a rather large hotel). However, we were feeling
brave, and mistakenly decided to hike it. Not having hiked much for the
past while, our legs were pretty sore by the time we reached the bottom.
