We had two very nice meals in Burgundy, the second of the two at
a Michelin one-star restaurant in Tournus. The food was very good, although Dad
had a bit of a surprise. He swore that he would never eat frogs legs, yet when
we chose something that started with "Jambonettes" on the menu, we
assumed that "Jambonettes" was a type of ham (jambon). I forgot for
the moment that "jambon" also means legs, so Jambonettes in this case
meant small legs. The waitress brought special utensils for the frogs legs, and
when we didn't understand what she said, she tried to act it out by making a
hopping motion with her hands (my Mom thought she was asking who had rabbit
which none of us had ordered). After the dish arrived, my Mom recognized the
frogs legs, but didn't spoil my Dad's appetite and waited until the next day to
tell him. The specialties that we dined on in Burgundy included frogs , snails,
and "boeuf bourgogne" or Burgundy beef.
