We were lucky and the weather cleared up for our visit to "Hida no Sato"
which is a folk village. Most of the houses are real antique houses that
were slated for demolition and were instead moved to this location (many of
them were saved from being flooded by a dam built a number of years back).
The houses have sharp rooves to help the snow fall off, and are designed
to face the typhoons so that the windows can be opened and the typhoon blows
right through instead of knocking the house over. The pond was filled with
koi, and you could buy food to feed them. Clearly they were used to being
fed, because they would come over to you and start sucking at the surface.
