A special event for girls in Japan is called Hina Matsuri which occurs
on March 3rd. Hina are small dolls for girls, and leading up to the
festival, households are supposed to have some of these special dolls
on display.
The full version of the hina maturi dolls includes the emperor and empress
as well as a large number of attendants on a multi-tiered stand.
However, we chose to go with the a simplified version that just includes
the emperor and empress. The dolls were bought for us by Hitomi's parents.
